Apollo.io

One database, sequencer and dialer for a founder who wants outbound without stitching tools together

The most complete solo outbound starter — as long as you accept that you are the SDR and Apollo is the engine, not the rep.

True solo cost · lowfrom $49$49/mo — 1 user on Basic billed annually; 30,000 credits/year (about 2,500/mo) covers roughly 500 email prospects/mo, assuming email reveals only and no heavy mobile lookups

What Apollo.io is — in our words

Apollo is an outbound prospecting platform, not inbound lead capture: you start from its large B2B contact database, filter by role, company size, industry, technology and intent topics, then reveal emails and phone numbers using credits. This is the find and enrich stage done inside one tool, rather than importing a list from elsewhere. From there you build multi-step sequences across email, calls and social touches, with AI help drafting and personalising messages, automated follow-ups, and a dialer on higher plans. Replies land in the engagement workflow for you to triage yourself; Apollo assists with research and drafting but it is not a fully autonomous SDR that negotiates objections and books meetings while you sleep. Meetings connect through calendar and CRM sync, so a positive reply becomes a pipeline record rather than a loose email thread. For a solo founder the appeal is consolidation: prospecting, verification, sequencing, basic analytics and CRM integration replace three or four separate subscriptions, and the free plan is genuinely useful for testing data quality in a narrow niche before paying. The catch is credit discipline. Reveals, mobile numbers and exports burn the annual credit pool at different rates, data accuracy varies by segment and region, and bounced or stale contacts still cost you time. It fits a founder selling to clearly defined B2B buyers who will run campaigns personally each week.

What it does end-to-end

  • Find prospects from a built-in B2B database with firmographic and intent filters
  • Enrich and reveal work emails and mobile numbers with credits
  • Write and send multi-channel email, call and social sequences
  • Sync prospects, activities and outcomes to HubSpot and Salesforce
  • Provide AI research and drafting assistance inside sequences

What it does NOT do

  • Act as a fully autonomous SDR that handles objections and books meetings unattended
  • Include unlimited data — reveals and mobiles consume a finite annual credit pool
  • Guarantee contact accuracy; stale records and bounces still occur by segment
  • Replace separate warm-up domains and mailboxes you should use for cold sending

Pros — our take

  • Database, sequencer and CRM sync in one subscription
  • Published per-seat pricing and a usable free plan
  • Fast to learn for a non-technical founder

Cons — our take

  • Credit burn is easy to underestimate, especially for mobile numbers
  • Contact data quality is uneven outside core US B2B segments
  • You still do the reply handling and selling yourself
