Bookkeeping agents, costed for one person.
Already on QuickBooks or Xero? An AI add-on inside your ledger is usually the cheapest safe move. Starting fresh? An AI-native ledger is simpler. Either way, every agent below is costed for one person at real transaction volume — and none of them files your taxes.

Ranked picks
Reasons on every listing. What to look for
- Inside your ledger vs. replaces it — switching ledgers is the real cost, not the subscription
- How exceptions are handled: a good agent flags the 5% it is unsure about instead of guessing
- Invoice chasing and receipt capture included, or sold as add-ons
- Whether a human bookkeeper/accountant reviews anything, and what that tier costs
- Export and exit: can you get clean books out if you leave?
Questions, answered
Will an AI bookkeeping agent replace my accountant?
No. These agents take over categorising, reconciling, receipt matching and month-end closing prep. Year-end tax filing, entity questions and anything unusual still need an accountant. Budget for both — the agent cuts the monthly grunt work, not the professional judgement.
Should I pick an add-on for QuickBooks or switch to an AI-native ledger?
If your QuickBooks/Xero history matters and your accountant works in it, an add-on (for example Booke AI) avoids migration entirely. If you are pre-revenue or your books are a mess anyway, an AI-native ledger (for example Digits) removes a layer. Each listing states which model it is and what the total solo cost looks like either way.
How accurate is AI categorisation, really?
On routine, repeating transactions the leading tools are consistently accurate, and they ask about the rest. The risk is silent miscategorisation of one-off items — which is why every listing here notes how exceptions surface, and why a monthly five-minute review of flagged items is still part of the job.
What does 'True Solo Cost' mean on this page?
Vendors price bookkeeping in incompatible ways — flat tiers, per-account pricing, service retainers. We convert each to what one person pays at two stated volumes (about 100 and about 400 transactions a month), from the vendor's published pricing page, date-stamped. Where a vendor publishes no price, we say so instead of guessing.
