What Clay is — in our words
Clay is an outbound data orchestration workspace, not inbound lead capture and not, by itself, an SDR. You build tables of target companies and people, then chain enrichments across more than 150 data providers in waterfalls — trying one source, then the next — to find verified emails, phone numbers, technographics and firmographics. Its AI agent, Claygent, researches the open web for custom data points no database sells, such as a specific hiring signal or a detail from a company's site, and can draft personalised opening lines from that research. Signals for job changes, company news and web intent can trigger fresh rows automatically. Sending is the boundary: Clay can launch campaigns natively through its sequencer on paid plans or push enriched, personalised lists into tools like Instantly, Smartlead and Outreach, and Growth adds CRM auto-sync. Replies, objection handling and meeting booking happen in those downstream tools, not in Clay. For a solo founder the power is real but so is the learning curve — Clay rewards people who think in workflows and spreadsheets, and its two-meter pricing, Actions for platform work and Data Credits for vendor data, takes a few campaigns to predict. It fits best when data quality is the bottleneck, not when you need your first campaign out this afternoon.
What it does end-to-end
- Find and enrich prospects using waterfall lookups across 150+ providers
- Research prospects with an AI agent for custom, web-sourced data points
- Track job-change, news and intent signals to trigger new outreach
- Generate personalised copy inputs from enrichment data
- Send natively on paid plans or export to external sequencers and CRMs
What it does NOT do
- Handle replies, objections or meeting booking; that happens in your sequencer
- Work like a simple no-code tool out of the box — tables and workflows take learning
- Charge one simple price; Actions and Data Credits are two separate meters
- Include CRM integrations on the entry Launch plan — they require Growth
Pricing — checked 2026-11-04
Two usage meters (Actions and Data Credits) inside Free, Launch and Growth plans; Enterprise is custom. Annual billing is cheaper.
| Plan | Published price |
|---|---|
| Free | $0 |
| Launch | $167/mo billed annually ($185/mo billed monthly) |
| Growth | $446/mo billed annually ($495/mo billed monthly) |
| Enterprise | Custom |
Integrations we verified: HubSpot, Salesforce, Instantly, Smartlead, Outreach, Salesloft, Slack, Zapier
Pros — our take
- Best-in-class enrichment quality from waterfalling many providers
- Claygent research creates personalisation data competitors cannot match
- Free plan and unlimited seats make experimentation cheap
Cons — our take
- Steepest learning curve in this list for a non-technical founder
- Two-meter credit pricing is hard to forecast for the first campaigns
- It builds the list; you still need a sender and a reply workflow
