Zapier Alternatives for Solo Founders (2026, True Cost Compared)

Zapier is the easiest automation platform to start with and the easiest to outgrow on price. If your zaps run a few times a day, stay — the alternatives below are not worth a migration weekend. If you are at thousands of runs a month, the same workflows usually cost a fraction on Make or n8n, because their billing units are more generous.

Every alternative here is costed on the same workloads as our Zapier listing — 1,000 and 10,000 runs a month — with each platform's billing unit converted openly, so you can see exactly where the crossover happens for your volume.

Why people switch. Zapier bills per task, and a five-step workflow costs five tasks every run. Solo founders who automate daily hit the task ceiling fast and start paying for the top tiers — the alternatives below bill per operation, per execution, or flat, which changes the maths at volume.

The incumbent, honestly assessed: our full Zapier listing — About $129/month billed annually at 10,000 tasks/month on Professional. Caution: 10,000 workflow runs with three action steps each = 30,000 tasks, which prices materially higher — Zapier bills steps, not runs. at typical solo volume, usage-based but predictable pricing, checked 2026-11-04.

The shortlist

Our verdict

For most solo founders the honest shortlist is Make (cheapest at volume, still no-code) or n8n (cheapest outright, but a Technical pick). Zapier remains the right answer while your runs are few and your time is worth more than the saving.

Questions switchers ask

Is Make really cheaper than Zapier for the same workflows?

Usually, yes — at volume. Make bills per operation and its plans include far more units per dollar; a multi-step workflow still consumes several operations per run, so convert carefully (we do it on each listing). At low volume both are cheap and Zapier's ease wins.

Should I self-host n8n to save money?

Only if you are comfortable running a small server. Self-hosted n8n removes per-execution costs but adds updates, backups and security to your plate. The cloud version is the fair middle ground for most solos.
