Full helpdesk with a cheap per-session AI agent — best value if email tickets dominate

Solid value for a ticket-based solo business, with the catch that per-session billing charges you for the AI's misses as well as its hits.

True solo cost · lowfrom $44~$44/mo effective — 1 seat, assumption: Growth $19/mo billed annually + 50 sessions × $0.49 = $43.50/mo effective for ~50 conversations (sessions are sold in packs of 100 at $49, so cash outlay in a buying month is $68)
True solo cost · typicalfrom $117~$117/mo effective — 1 seat, assumption: Growth $19/mo billed annually + 200 sessions × $0.49 = $117/mo effective for ~200 conversations, billed on all sessions including unresolved ones

What Freshdesk Freddy AI is — in our words

Freshdesk is a complete ticketing helpdesk from Freshworks, and Freddy AI Agent is its autonomous agent for customer questions. In the classic Freshdesk product the agent is centred on email, while Freshdesk Omni extends the same idea across chat, messaging and social channels for more per seat — a distinction a solo buyer must notice before assuming chat is included. Freddy learns from your knowledge base and help content, handles a conversation inside a session window — seventy-two hours for email, twenty-four hours for chat — and resolves or routes what it cannot handle into your normal ticket queues with assignment, SLAs and reporting intact. You get a real helpdesk around the AI: shared inbox, customer portal, automations, routing and, on Pro, the Freddy Copilot add-on that drafts and summarises for you at $29 per agent per month. It can work with connected apps and connector tasks to pull in outside data, but it is less naturally action-oriented in ecommerce than Gorgias or Fin; expect competent answering, classification and routing first, bespoke order actions second. Handoff is simply normal ticketing, which is a virtue if you already think in tickets. Session billing cuts both ways: at $0.49 it looks cheapest here, but you pay for sessions whether or not the issue was actually resolved.

What it does end-to-end

  • Answers email tickets autonomously in classic Freshdesk, and chat and messaging on Freshdesk Omni
  • Uses your knowledge base and routes unresolved work into normal Freshdesk tickets
  • Includes a full helpdesk — portal, automations, routing, SLAs and reporting — around the AI
  • Offers Freddy Copilot drafting and summaries on Pro and Enterprise as a paid add-on

What it does NOT do

  • Charge only for successes — sessions are billed whether or not the query was resolved
  • Include omnichannel chat AI in the cheapest classic plan — that is the pricier Omni product
  • Match Shopify-native agents on deep order actions without extra configuration

Pros — our take

  • Cheapest credible seat-plus-AI combination if your support is mostly email tickets
  • You get a proper, mature helpdesk rather than just a chat widget
  • Session packs are simple to buy and the first 500 sessions let you test properly

Cons — our take

  • You pay for sessions the AI fails to resolve, unlike per-resolution rivals
  • Chat and messaging AI means paying Omni prices, not the $19 headline
  • Product line and add-on sprawl — Agent, Copilot, Insights, connectors — is confusing to buy
